Flower Searching in the Alberta Foothills

When Brian and Dee were spring flower searching on the weekend, they had company: a black bear was ‘mowing’ a field of dandelion flowers just off the trail near them as they quietly walked by.  The bear was minding his own business, nipping the flower heads off!  Their total species count after 3 spring day-hikes last week?  Two dozen flowers identified, including many as beautiful as these Shooting stars pictured here; some 20 bird species; and 7 large mammals, including this black bear bear pictured here, the grizzly they watched last week, a coyote, 9 Bighorn sheep, and both species of deer!  They said “the forest range with early morning bird song, and the vistas were priceless!”  Classic Alberta foothills!
